More than 75,000 Walt Disney World Cast Members will be furloughed beginning April 19, and Disney has now confirmed to Cast that they will be automatically enrolled into Florida's unemployment system.
Cast Members have been attempting to use the state's CONNECT web-based system to register for benefits, but the system has been flooded with requests leaving it nearly impossible to use.
In a briefing last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis stated that he may launch a plan to automatically add Disney workers into the system, which would bypass the problematic website and put Cast Members into a position where they can receive the benefits they need. An agreement now appears to have been reached, and Disney is informing Cast Members this weekend that they will be automatically enrolled into the state system early next week.
Eligible Cast Members may receive up to $275 per week from the state, and an additional $600 per week from the federal CARES Act that was signed into law last month as COVID-19 took hold across the United States.
