Global medical technology company Masimo today announced today that former Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek has been appointed to Masimo's Board of Directors.
"I am thrilled to join the Masimo Board," said Mr. Chapek. "I look forward to helping advance the company's growth by leveraging their core technologies in the consumer and consumer health spaces."
Joe Kiani, Chairman and CEO of Masimo, said, "We are honored to have Bob join the Board. As we execute our hospital to home strategy, we expect to benefit greatly from Bob's role on our Board."
Chapek was fired by the Walt Disney Company board in November 2022 to be replaced by previous CEO Bob Iger. Chapek has remained out of the public eye since leaving.
Chapek took control of the Walt Disney Company in 2020 following Bob Iger's retirement and had been at the company for more than 30 years prior to becoming CEO.
Before becoming CEO, Chapek served as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.
Chapek was a controversial figure in his role as Disney CEO, and was blamed by fans and Disney executives for many of the difficulties in which the company found itself.
Park visitors posted videos on TikTok and Instagram, saying rides closed or new project cutbacks were "Chapek'd." "Bob Cheapek" became a meme on fan sites and message boards, referring to the CEO's reputation for cost-cutting and higher prices.
In a CNBC interview in February 2023, Iger was asked about the appointment and firing of Chapek, and said "We thought we made the right decision when we chose Bob [Chapek] in 2020. The board decided in November he wasn't the right person for the job and made a change."
