Walt Disney World will be closing its theme parks at the close of business on Sunday March 15 2020 through to the end of March 2020.
In a statement, the company said:
In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort, beginning at the close of business on Sunday, March 15, through the end of the month.
Disney Cruise Line will suspend all new departures beginning Saturday, March 14, through the end of the month.
The Walt Disney Company will pay its cast members during that closure period.
The hotels at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris will remain open until further notice. The retail and dining complexes, Disney Springs at Walt Disney World and Disney Village at Disneyland Paris, will remain open.
Disney took the decision earlier today to close the Disneyland Resort following guidance from the state of California on restricting mass gatherings.
At the Walt Disney World theme parks, portable hand-washing stations have been setup in addition to the hand sanitizer stations that have been in place for the last few weeks.
New signage is also in place around the parks giving public health recommendations, including frequent hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and to seek medical attention if experiencing flu-like symptoms.
