The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that may impact Central Florida and the Walt Disney World theme park areas next week.
Latest models indicate a high chance of tropical development over the next few days, with the system passing across Central Florida around Wednesday.
The National Hurricane Center is currently advising that interests in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, western Cuba, and Florida should monitor the progress of this system.
The hurricane season in Florida, as in the rest of the Atlantic Basin, officially runs from June 1st to November 30th. However, the peak of the season, when Florida is most likely to be hit, is from mid-August to late October.

Of those, 5 to 9 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 1 to 4 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). NOAA says that is has a 70% confidence in these ranges.
