The National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL, has issued a Cold Weather Advisory affecting Orange County and several surrounding areas, including Walt Disney World Resort. The advisory is in effect from 3:00 am to 9:00 am EST on Thursday, January 9, with wind chills expected to fall as low as 25 to 30 degrees.

Advisory Details

  • When: Thursday, January 9, from 3:00 am to 9:00 am EST
  • Where: Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange (Walt Disney World), Osceola, Brevard, Okeechobee, Indian River, and Saint Lucie counties
  • Wind Chill: As low as 25 degrees
  • Risk: Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken

Impact on Walt Disney World Visitors

Guests planning to visit the parks early Thursday morning should prepare for unseasonably cold weather. With temperatures this low, outdoor areas in parks such as EPCOT’s World Showcase and Animal Kingdom could feel especially frigid due to open spaces and higher wind exposure. Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed for the day.

Safety Tips for Guests

  • Dress Warmly: Wear layers, including jackets, hats, and gloves.
  • Stay Dry: Avoid getting wet, as damp clothing can accelerate heat loss.
  • Plan Indoor Activities: Consider spending more time in indoor attractions or dining locations to warm up.
  • Transportation: Be aware that exposed transportation, such as ferry boats and outdoor trams, may feel colder due to wind.

Going to make for a very cold morning for all the 5K folks waiting in the corrals. Yikes!

I've been in places where I've experienced similar conditions, arguably worse.

That was pretty much me. LOL. Except I wasn't hot. Quite the opposite, I can assure you.

I've seen teen girls in very tight short shorts in weather like this. What are they thinking?

Have you been with combined freezing temps and wind chill? I have. Trust me. You wouldn't like it.

This is definitely not the first time this has occurred. I was at WDW one MLK weekend and the weather was just as cold if not colder. Fortunately, I was aware of the forecast and had everything: Long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, Nautica jacket with down lining, wool cap, scarf, and thick gloves. I still froze my rear off. For some crazy reason, I already had a VIP ticket for the FARTS concert. Obviously, I didn't need a VIP ticket because most had left anyway.
