I remember going as a kid when it was the only water park. It was modest but never that crowded. I had some exciting slides and I always remember the zip line they had. RIP River Country.
PS hi
what happened to river country?? :(
I have to agree that river country was definitly the best water park on disney property. I remember having an annual pass for RC and they were less then what the cost of a day pass for BB or TL is now. After doing a little big of research on why RC closed, i now understand why its closed. According to the Florida Dept of Recreation, RC closed because the water that is used to make RC run is coming from Bay Lake and the toxins have made it unhealty for the park guests. So if you have ever wondered why its closed, then that is the reason.
I hate to say it, but I don't actually think this park is open any more. Maybe they are up-dating? A shame as this is a real traditional park and a great place to spend an afternoon lounging around. BUT it's not the all thrills of TL and BB...this is good ole fashioned family fun....if indeed it is even still open!!
I think the 2 water slides at River Country are the best. Turns are very sharp and fast compared to BB and TL. $ value is excellent. We spend a whole day.
The white water rapids is one of the best rides at a disney waterpark. I also enjoy the two long flume rides along with the two slide that drop into the pool.
Anybody else out the remember when this was the ONLY water park at Disney? Honestly, I find it a shame that it's been closed. This little park has a bunch to offer, including a nice beach on the "lake", a few slides, some fun "playground-type" rides (boom swing, etc). Although a lot tamer than its new, monstrous counterparts, it was certainly worth an afternoon or two of fun and laughs. There's just something very relaxing about taking a dip in the "ol' swimmin' hole".
River Country is not BB or TL, but it is just as enjoyable as the others. Unlike the other two there are not long lines just to get on slides. RC is , without question, the most kid friendly of the three water parks. I have been to all three parks with kids ranging from 8-16 and all of them had the most fun at RC. I hope someday it will open back up, even if not as a waterpark atleast as a pool type area for Fort Wilderness.
River Country is a great water park to hang out and relax at. It features just pools, and lots of play equipment. Is not that expensive so its good for a hot day to sit, take some dips in the pool and relax. River Country is one of my favorites among the water parks, its a lot of fun.
It's hard to compare River Country with its newer, larger cousins Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Yes, River Country is smaller, but it is well-themed, less crowded, and fun. The best ice cream I've ever had at WDW was at a little stand on the path from the boat dock to River Country. It had an old fashioned ice cream churn that was used to actually mix the ice cream. Delicious!
In comparison to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, River Country does fall behind. No wonder it's been closed. But if you're looking for relaxation, this is the place since the crowds tend to go to BB and TL.
