Universal Orlando Resort has today announced that Minion Land on Illumination Avenue will officially open to guests on August 11, 2023 at Universal Studios Florida.

Currently in preview for guests, Minion Land was created in partnership between Universal Creative and Illumination and brings to life a whole new level of Minion mischief and diabolical fun.

Minion Land expands upon the popular Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction to engage the entire family in a new collection of adventures inspired by Illumination’s Minions franchise. In Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast guests can blast their way to supervillain stardom.

Blending immersive sets, interactive game-based technology, and an original storyline, this first-of-its-kind attraction puts guests’ villainous skills to the test to see if they have what it takes to become a member of the Vicious 6 – a notorious group of supervillains from the hit film, “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”

Illumination’s Minion Cafe is a new eatery run by the Minions featuring; Pop-A-Nana – a kiosk featuring banana-flavored popcorn; Freeze Ray Pops – a walk-up window serving colorful frozen treats; and Bake My Day – a retail location and bakery featuring Minion-themed sweet treats.

Guests can also stop by the outdoor Illumination Theater façade to meet, greet, and interact with characters like the Minions, Gru, Margo, Edith, and Agnes from the “Despicable Me” franchise, and Rosita, Gunter, and Johnny from the hit film “Sing.”

A new Evil Stuff retail store completes Minion Land.

I’m ashamed to admit that we liked this! It’s no VelociCoaster but we spent more time playing this that we spent watching Shrek. It’s replayable, fun, and a short wait. My forearms hurt after each time, though. Gotta workout in advance next time.

That's like your opinion though, and I definitely disagree. I did Shrek 4D maybe once every 3 years and I make sure I do Minion Blast at least once every time I visit, and usually end up doing it multiple times.

Right, but the "scenes" are also really small and cramped, the immersion level of the attraction would be greater if it all didn't feel so tiny.

I mean it is a decently long attraction, not sure if you’d want to be standing on it for over 5 minutes.

Two months*. It is by FAR their biggest revenue generator, so I get it. But at the same time, building an already sub-par year-round attraction even more sub-par than it could have been, simply because they can use the other half of the building for ONE HHN house even though they could easily just put another tent somewhere else is a little short-sighted.

The obsession with HHN continues, at the expense of the experience of the parks. A total disgrace to harm your parks for a month's extra revenue.

That is the intention. With the potential for losing at least one Sprung tent in the coming years, it makes sense from a certain perspective, but not everyone will share the same priorities.

Something really strange is that they actually didn't use the second Shrek theater, the one that is normally used for HHN houses. I wonder if the intention was to still use it as an HHN house moving forward? But it's odd that this could have been a bigger experience but was crammed into half the structure.

Point being - when you remove an attraction and replace it with something, the aim is to make it a better attraction. In this case ... this seems a bizarre bit of strategy to actually make a worst attraction than the one you are replacing.

Shrek 4D was absolutely terrible, much worse than minion blast, and it's on Netflix. Shrek is getting his own mini-land anyways, so it'd be weird to have Shrek in two different areas of the park.
