Disney CEO Bob Iger announced at today's quarterly earnings call that the company will move to a 'one app' experience for domestic customers.

The Disney+ app will be come home to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. All three services will continue to be available as standalone options for subscribers to purchase.

Iger said the movie, "is a logical projection of DTC offerings that will provide greater opportunities for advertisers while giving bundle subscribers access to more robust and streamlined content resulting in greater audience engagement and ultimately leading to more unified streaming experience."

The new 'one app' experience will debut before the end of 2023.

Just watched the new John Williams documentary on Disney+. Me and my wife started it while eating dinner only intending to watch part of it today, but ended up watching the whole thing. I've seen a lot of documentary material on John but there were still things I didn't know, for example I never knew he did the theme song to the Lost in Space TV show. Highly recommend it.

This is what I would expect. Because even with all the jabs at Disney over the years by fans of them curating of surveys to get the results Disney wants, which I never really believed anyways, this I feel this was going to be an accurate reflection of viewership. If your users can't trust the results you give them then its useless and you lose them. So I think this is straight up an actual reflection of what users are watching. Now we'll see if it remains that way as time goes on. But at least for now I think its accurate.

I was a bit curious to see how much curation is actually going on behind the scenes. Nov 1 is coincidentally a good day to check. Indeed the top ten in Canada is all Halloween content still, with number one Agatha and Coco sandwiching. That feels accurate to what people actually watched yesterday and not an algorithm shunting us towards Christmas because the calendar day rolled over.
