A new theatrical film based on the hit Disney+ show The Mandalorian is set to go into production this year.

The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will be directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm, and Dave Filoni. It will go into production this year and star The Mandalorian and Grogu.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," Favreau said. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

Kennedy added that "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen."

The new film will lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate including projects helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Filoni, among those in the works.

Filoni is also currently developing the second season of the popular Disney+ series, Ahsoka.

Apparently filming has wrapped on this and still aiming for a may 2026 release. Looking forward to this as it will be the first Star Wars movie I'll take my son too so a special moment for us and he's a massive fan of Mando and Grogu

A trailer was shown tonight. It's out there if you know where to look. There's one unexpected cameo (though not entirely unexpected as we've seen the person before recently).

Figured this is as good a place as any. Just finished Season 3 which was uneven in my opinion. Season 1 laying groundwork so it gets somewhat of a pass. Season 2 was great. Season 3? Mixed feelings. I think one of the weakest things is Gideon as a villain. I like the mad scientist angle but like Kylo Ren just isn't that menacing. No issues with the actor playing him, he does a fine job. But at no time does he really seem that intimidating.

I hope this film is good and I also hope it concludes the Mando and Grogu story and it goes out on top with us wanting more, like the OT

Knowing Disney, they'll get Wil Wheaton instead and call it a massive triumph.

Is Shatner still alive?

Sigourney Weaver is reportedly in talks to join The Mandalorian & Grogu. "Sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver has faced off against face-hugging aliens and squared off against colonizers on lush green planets, but she has never faced stormtroopers and galactic bounty hunters. Until now. Weaver is in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first Star Wars movie to go into to go into production since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/star-wars-sigourney-weaver-mandalorian-and-grogu-1235896490/

Dude, I'm not the one writing it, I'm just saying that is where it was all heading. As its clear they want to continue on with this Project Necromancer story line, Bad Batch I doubt is going to be the finish of it.

Dude…

The question is will it actually be a standalone story, I'm not so sure. I'm interested to see what story they tell with the characters. But also curious to see how it will tie into everything else they've been doing with the "Mandoverse" and if it ties into the ST as that appeared to be where they were heading.

Hopefully we'll hear about a new date soon.

I think the story was pretty much done after season 2…you couldn’t beat that I’m curious if they can do a good standalone story? That’s what they’d need to pull off now
