The main feature pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort reopened this past weekend, bringing an expanded deck area, a hot tub, a rebuilt volcano, and an all new children's water play area.
Although the pool itself remains unchanged, the area has an all new larger deck, which has provided much more space for lounge furniture and the increased number of guests expected to use the pool with the expansion of the resort to include the DVC Bungalows and Villas.
The pool slide is the same, but the volcano structure around it has been completely rebuilt. Guests will find a new hot tub, which features an infinity edge - a first for a Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
The biggest change is the inclusion of the new Kiki Tikis Splash Play area. Following the recent trend from the other refurbished pools, the kids splash area looks large and has a lot for the little ones to do. Something that was missing with the old Polynesian pool area.
You might be wondering how the expanded deck area has been made possible without moving the pool or moving buildings. A lot of the walkways and gardens that were between the Great Ceremonial House and the pool area have now been incorporated into the pool deck, and all of the private cabanas have been removed. If you are curious about how it looked before, check out a gallery from before the refurbishment.
Although the Lava Pool is open to guests, it is not yet fully complete. There is still active construction taking place on the Kiki Tikis Splash Play area, and in other small areas around the pool. Work is expected to be completed by mid April 2015, at which time the resort's quiet pool will close for a remodel.
The Lava Pool is open daily from 9am to 10pm, and like other recent Walt Disney World pool refurbishments, the area is now full gated.
