Stormalong Bay refurbishment - February 2025
Posted: Thursday February 13, 2025 8:50am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort is undergoing a major refurbishment, with work expected to continue through June 2025.

The entire pool complex has been drained, and crews are actively working on all aspects of the area, from resurfacing to structural repairs.

Crews are resurfacing the drained pools and have removed all sand from the sand-bottomed sections, which will be replaced later in the project.

The whirlpool spas are also undergoing updates, while the Shipwreck Slide is receiving maintenance.

Additionally, the surrounding pool deck is being replaced.

Stormalong Bay, one of Walt Disney World's most elaborate resort pool areas, closed for refurbishment in January 2025 and is set to remain unavailable until June 2025. Covering three acres, the pool complex features a lazy river, multiple whirlpools, kiddie pools, and an elevated sun deck.

While Stormalong Bay remains closed, guests staying at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort can use the Tidal, Admiral, and Dune Cove leisure pools as alternative options.

Disney has not provided a specific reopening date beyond the June 2025 timeframe.

Oh wow, that's fascinating, thank you both.

There was going to be, and I think for a brief period there was, fish at the bottom of what’s just the lazy river now. It’s the reason that it’s the only resort that uses deep-water lifeguards, as the aquatic life necessitated a portion of the lazy river to be very deep.

The lazy river was originally salt water and had assorted sea life in it you could swim with. It wasn't practical to keep operational.

I apologize if this was simply a very obvious joke that went completely over my head, but my curiosity is getting the best of me. Can I ask what you mean by sea life?

Wild too, because many rooms at Beach Club and a few at Yacht Club overlook Stormalong Bay. Wonder if they are still categorized as a Water View and cost more than Standard View? I understand that Crescent Lake can be seen in the distance, but that is beyond the commotion and equipment of the pool deck. During past pool refurbs (although not all), Guests were able to use the feature pool at BoardWalk, they even had golf cart shuttles to take you there and back if needed.

Wish they brought back the sinking sand areas

Yeah, they could use a few more. Typically when I go in late August/September, they have enough, but during more crowded periods I can imagine they'd need more.

Hopefully they buy more tubes during the closure. I feel like there are never enough and people hoard them.

Some of us are short and can barely touch anywhere in that lazy river...😂 And that's where I spend the majority of my time. Have to grab a tube immediately because that's it once I'm off the stairs...Bobbing without having your feet on the floor is overrated unless you have a tube. 😂

No sense? I will differ with that sentiment, as some of us are tall and we like to swim and bob and have fun without touching the floor. It is more fun being in water that is over your head. Disney has removed every single deep end from their quiet pools, and they have flattened out their feature pool depths as well. It stinks!

Respect the POV.

No thank you! The deep end is one of the best parts, and the only place on property that I can “experience” not being able to touch the floor, so I absolutely love it. Although it would make sense from a labor cost and possibly safety standpoint, I think guests enjoy the deep portion of the lazy river too much for them to get rid of it.

The original depth was for sea life. It doesn't make any sense at this point.
