The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for much of Central Florida, which includes the Walt Disney World theme park areas.
The watch was issued at 1:15 pm, and is in effect until 9 pm January 9, 2024.
A weather watch is a precautionary alert that advises of the potential for hazardous weather conditions, while a weather warning is a more urgent notification that dangerous weather is imminent or already happening.
The National Weather Service reports that a band of strong to severe storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and the potential for a few tornadoes is forecast to move rapidly across the peninsula late Tuesday afternoon and evening. Locally damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible, with sustained winds of 22 mph.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared a state of emergency for 49 of Florida's 67 counties, including Orange and Osceola - home of Walt Disney World.
Disney has yet to make any operational changes at Walt Disney World, and all parks are currently planned to operate normally
