Walt Disney World Gas Stations, Car Rental and Pet Care closing early today

Due to the approaching Hurricane Matthew, more closures are now being confirmed for the Walt Disney World area.

Speedway gas stations at Walt Disney World will close at 6pm on Thursday.
Best Friends Pet Care will close at 6pm on Thursday through Friday.
The Car Care Center outside of the TTC will close at 2pm today through Friday.
Alamo Rent A Car will close at 3pm today through Friday.

The above closure are in addition to the previously announced changes to normal operations.

Closed as of 5pm Thursday October 6

Previously announced impacts

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party cancelled Thursday October 6 and Friday October 7.
Blizzard Beach closed Thursday October 6.
Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon closed Thursday October 6 and Friday October 7.
Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground closed through Sunday.
Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and Mickey's Backyard BBQ cancelled through Sunday.
Spirit of Aloha Dinner show at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort cancelled on Thursday October 6 and Friday October 7.
Characters in Flight at Disney Springs closed through to Sunday.

Very, very true. And depending on the part of North Florida, you are either in FloGeorgia (my part) or FlorBama (Crestview west to Pensacola). Yes sir, South Florida may be urban, international and cosmopolitan, but up here in redneck territory, we like our alcohol to be Bud, not Merlot......

I still don't understand what Disney failed to do in this situation. The majority of personal accounts/articles/fb posts that I have read were praising Disney for how they handled the guests on Thursday and Friday. You're always going to have a few complainers who think they weren't coddled enough.

I concur on this - there was a January 2016 reorg where each hotel was given a general manager. I'm fairly sure (as you said) that Disney would have an overarching emergency plan, but that some of the implementation went awry as managers misinterpreted, misunderstood, or lacked the 'institutional knowledge' (ie how it was followed historically). Each hotel might have their own contingencies as well (eg Fort Wilderness). Quote for emphasis. That's the problem - it shouldn't just be on the shelf. I would think that dragging out the binder would happen in May during Natl Hurricane Preparedness Week.(?) ie recurrent as you said.
