PHOTOS - Retail MagicBands take prominent position in Walt Disney World shops

MagicBand retail display at the Magic Kingdom's Emporium

MagicBands became available for purchase on March 31 2014 and Disney has given them prominent positions in the stores throughout the parks and at Downtown Disney.

This is the display in the Magic Kingdom's Emporium, where an entire wall is full of MagicBands, displayed in all colors, and complimented by the array of accessories to customize the bands.

The retail MagicBands sell for $12.95 plus tax, and come in the full range of seven colors - pink, blue, red, green, orange, gray, yellow. The bands come in a great 'NextGen' looking box - complete with instructions on adjusting the band, and a clear notice that the bands are not returnable once purchased.

MagicBands on display

At the time of MagicBand purchase, you must already have an RFID ticket or existing MagicBand.

The Cast Member will link the new MagicBand to your ticket, and My Disney Experience account if available. This means that you cannot buy additional bands for other people not present, as each band must be linked at the time of purchase.

You can link multiple MagicBands to your My Disney Experience account, so for Annual Passholders, resort guests, or offsite guests who may want more than one band, this is possible.

Once linked to your My Disney Experience account, MagicBands can be retained and used for future trips.

A 10% discount on MagicBands is available to Annual Passholders and DVC Members.

Plenty for sale on ebay. Some of which will be claimed to unused/unworn. Haven't seen any for sale direct yet.

I think a lot of people will just consider the form factor to be more convenient, regardless of the actual additional features.

Actually, that makes one wonder just how the CM is trained to respond when the guest asks just what the band does or gives them that the RFID card (which they already have) doesn't.

Aw, it will be easy: It's Disney and people will buy anything! When guests ask you what's so special about them, simply say "They are MAGIC Bands! They make your money disappear!" ... see how long it takes before they let you go ;)

Let me tell you about some of the crappy jobs I had when I was younger....standing at WDW on a corner selling anything short of live hand grenades would be better than those :)

Standing in one spot holding a product sounds preferable than the rest of the tasks Merch CMs do. I'd much rather stand somewhere than stock shelves, deal with cranky guests who can't find what they want or just about anything else retail related.

I buy several pins each of my Disney trips. Many cost $12.95 or more. So why is everyone complaining about buying a MB. I plan to buy one or more and bling them up with more un-necessary bandits and sliders! Assimilate and embrace the technology, or should we say Magic!

It's to everybody who made comments that called into question why people would buy a MB in a way that implied they were foolish for doing so. I honestly do not know if you did that or if you did not, if so then yep it's aimed at you among others. To those who did it I still say if you don't like the ideal of buying MB then don't. But to try and dampen somebody's excitement who did is silly, rude and just plain wrong IMO.
