Sci-Fi Dine-In breakfast

You can now start your day at Disney's Hollywood Studios with a prix fixe breakfast at one of the best themed restaurants in all of Walt Disney World.

The Sci-Fi Dine-In began breakfast service this past weekend, and is set to continue through to January 23 2016. Priced at $25.55 inc tax ($13.84 for ages 3 - 9), the fixed price menu (see below for full menu) offers a shared pastry basket for the table, an individual starter, choice of entree and beverage.

Dine in a Drive-In Movie Theater

The restaurant is themed to a drive-in movie theater from the 50's, complete with vintage Sci-Fi clips shown on the big screen, with diners seated in classic cars. It really is an impressive space, very dimly lit, but with detailed touches throughout. You'll even find vintage speakers hanging beside the cars for the movie audio.

Most of the seating is in vintage cars, in a variety of configurations. There are cars with 3 rows, each seating 2 guests per row. Cars with 2 rows, each seating 2 guests per row. Cars split in half with conventional tables, seating 8, and finally a few round picnic-type tables at the rear of the theater with seating for 4.

The variety of tables make the setup accommodating for different group sizes, and for those groups with wheelchairs or other accessibility requirements.

The atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful. Perhaps it is the movie clips being shown on the screen keeping everyone's attention, but the dining room is one of the quietest at Walt Disney World. For the time you are in there, it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the park outside.

The Food

Breakfast starts out with a pastry basket for the table, with each including two of each item - a Croissant, Double Chocolate Muffin, and Orange-glazed Cinnamon Bun. Exactly how many baskets you get isn't clear, but from observation, it appears to be one basket per row of the car, or two guests. (Apologies for the quality of the photos - the light is extremely dim in the restaurant)

The pastries are similar to what you will find at many of the Walt Disney World breakfasts, nothing to get overly excited about, but a nice way to get things started.

Each guest has a choice of starter and entree. Out of the two starter choices, our pick is the Yogurt Parfait with fresh Berries and House-made Granola. It was mostly yogurt, and could do with much more fruit and granola, but compared to the seasonal fruit dish, that was mostly all melon, it was a reasonable starter.

Moving on to the main course, we first tried the Healthy Choice, which is an Egg White Omelet with Shiitake Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, Garlic-roasted Fingerling Potatoes, and Greek Yogurt with Berries. It was well prepared and a good option for anyone looking for cleaner option than many of the typical breakfast choices.

Next up we had the Steak and Eggs, which is a Grilled Beef Tenderloin on Oven-roasted Tomato with Bacon and Cheddar Custard, Baby Spinach and Cheesy Horseradish Potatoes.

This was a surprisingly good piece of beef, although on the small side. The bacon and cheddar custard was a nice addition to the dish. We didn't get a choice of temperature on the beef, but it tasted like a medium (it was too dark to actually see the color).

For the little ones we tried the traditional breakfast. Similar to what you can find elsewhere in the resorts, it isn't the most inspired of dishes, but is probably a safe choice for kids.

Final Thoughts

The new Sci-Fi breakfast offering is very similar to the Be Our Guest breakfast at the Magic Kingdom. If you've tried that and liked it, you will more than likely enjoy the Sci-Fi breakfast. These two fixed price offerings are in our opinion good value for money compared to what you can get at a quick service location. For around double the price, you get significant better (and more) food, and a table service environment.

The Sci-Fi Dine-In is one of those dining experiences that is a must do, at least once, and this breakfast option is an ideal chance to see the restaurant at a lower cost than a full lunch or dinner at the restaurant.

The food isn't going to win awards, and there are better options if it is all about the food for you, but it is certainly better than all of the quick service options at Walt Disney World, and some of the table service restaurants at the resorts. If you are heading to Walt Disney World in the next few months and want a different way to start your day at the park, we recommend you give it a try - especially if you have never experienced the Sci-Fi before.

Reservations can be made for breakfast at the Sci-Fi Dine In now. Breakfast is served from 8am to 10:15am.

They're going to need to do something to keep this park on life support while all the construction ramps up. I believe Star Wars weekend needed to be cut back as there wouldn't be enough room to run parades and handle the typical crowds, but would not be surprised in the least if they hold a few spur of the moment Star Wars events. It will be interesting to watch and see if these SW character breakfasts come back, or if something else springs up.

I didn't have Star Wars breakfast on a weekend to begin with. So I was just thinking they still may do it during season of the force.

no more Star Wars weekends....no more Star Wars Galactic breakfast

Andrew CJan 22, 2016

Hopefully they still do the Star Wars Galactic breakfast again this year. I really liked it last year.

Sci Fi will no longer be offering breakfast now that the test is over.

It is a wonderful option, filled us like a great brunch. The Shrimp and grits beyond wonderful, and the beef with baby spinach was amazing. One of the best breakfasts we have ever had!

Wow, that's a lot of money for breakfast!

We were there the first week of December and it was great. I had the Sci Fi Crab and Eggs which was delicious, and my kids had the Mickey waffles. The pastries they brought out were fresh and very good. The fresh fruit was good- strawberries, blueberries, different kinds of melon and I believe pineapple. I would definitely go back for breakfast again.

Thank you for the pictorial review. I would have been tempted to try this, but seeing the items available, it seems to be a good option for me to skip (preferences and allergens, and I hate being a p.i.t.a. to the chefs.)

Thank you. Re-reading my post, it sounded ruder than I intended.. It's not how I intended it to be.. Seems like not a very good use for a TS credit..
