Plaza Restaurant refurbishment - February 5, 2025
Posted: Wednesday February 5, 2025 7:35am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The Plaza Restaurant at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom has once again gone behind construction walls.

The major exterior refurbishment that took place in 2024 appeared to be complete in September, but now a significant portion of the restaurant's exterior, including the side facing the dining room, is now enclosed by tall scrims and construction barriers.

Despite the ongoing work, The Plaza Restaurant remains open for guests as usual. The additional exterior updates do not impact dining operations, and reservations continue to be available.

Fair. But who wants to watch the unwashed masses flowing by while eating at The Plaza? 😉

But not so much if you are inside dining and want to enjoy the view

The removal of the glass “obscurities” is unfortunate. It looked very nice.

Oh. Thought it looked nice. 😂 🤷‍♂️

It was only placed there temporarily to obscure the construction.

Andrew COct 05, 2024

Wait, why?

TheCoasterNerdOct 05, 2024

NOOOOO

Can’t think of the word rn but these just roll and stick onto glass. I’ve used them before. They look good.

All of the decorative glass has been removed and replaced with clear glass (or more likely as @EricsBiscuit noted below, a film that can be removed) - photos from today.

I am not the architectural expert at all but IMO the last two buildings towards the right look amazing and fit the era beautifully. The first building on the corner has great touches, apart from this portion which to me looks like newer construction materials trying to evoke an older style (but not quite pulling it off) - This is a problem with the new poly tower, GF lobby in parts, and some other newer remodels.

Always someone in the crowd.

Fair enough, but I really wish they would find a better way to handle it. It really sticks out to me as the sort of thing Disney is reputed to be very good at concealing, but this is just stuck on top of the pavilion in full view of guests. If it was a temporary solution for a new show that was later properly concealed I would understand, but they seem content just leaving it like that.
