My husband and I were really excited to try Monsieur Paul's since we had always enjoyed our meals in Bistro do Paris. We had a 8pm reservation for this past Saturday night. We checked in around 7:45pm and were seated shortly thereafter. The good: Our waiter, Nicholas was attentive and came over within a few minutes of us being seated. He asked if we had any questions and gave us the wine list to look at since we indicated that we would like wine. He came back shortly there after to take our orders. Another server then appeared with an "Amuse Bouche" of Escargot en Brioche. (Anyone the has had the escargot at the French kiosk at the Food & Wine fest will recognize these.) They were tasty as always. Our wine arrived next. Since we didn't order any appetizers, our entrees arrived fairly quickly. I ordered the Filet de bœuf grillé forestier, purée de pomme de terre, sauce Bordelaise. The steak came out with what looked to be a disk of mushroom duxelle on top. The Bordelaise suace was on the plate. The potatoes came out in a separate ramekin and were topped with a truffle foam. The steak was cook just as I ordered it (med. rare) and the steak with mushroom crust was super tasty. The mushroom crust was actually a mixture of mushrooms, onion & bacon. The potatoes were really good as well, but super rich. My husband ordered St. Jacques Parfum d’Hiver, émulsion de crème au rhum (Seared scallops, black truffle spaghettini, Romanesco cabbage, rum cream foam). He was extremely happy with his choice & said it was excellent. The dish looked good, but I did not try it as I'm not a huge fan of scallops. We were full at this point and did not eat dessert. The restaurant was really busy, but we were still in & out in an hour. The bad: Bistro was always a loud restaurant to eat a meal in & that has certainly not changed. However, before there was a kid's menu offered, you didn't see many little kids in there. This is not the case anymore. Saturday night, there were 2 separate tables that had kids screaming at the tops of their lungs that sounded like fire sirens. I saw about 4 other children that looked around the age of 4-6 running around the restaurant. (i.e. not seated at the table, just running around & darting in front of waiters.) This did not make for a optimal dining experience. I know the restaurant is in a theme park & kids go along with it, but for the price I was paying, I really wasn't happy listening to the din of noise. I've been to football games were the noise level wasn't as loud. Will I go back? Maybe. I did enjoy my meal and the service was good. I will just make sure I go during a serious off season & probably avoid a Saturday night.
We decided to try out Monsieur Paul after canceling a couple one-credit reservations and wanting to upgrade to a 2-credit dining facility. Granted, Monsieur Paul had only been open less than a week when we dined there but it seemed like they still hadn't worked out all the kinks on their end. I ordered the duck and my lady-friend ordered the lobster as an entre' and while the meals were good they were certainly not worth the wait that we encountered. We had to wait at least an hour after our food was ordered to arrive. It was not busy at all, maybe 5 parties were dining at the time and it not like they have an extensive menu where they weren't prepared to cook something. To be fair, the manager did comp us each a glass of wine due to the wait which he brought up, we did not complain but overall not a high-quality dining experience for $50 a plate. I would much rather go to Les Chefs downstair for the food and experience. It's worth trying once if you're into French Cuisine but not worth a return visit.
