Triceratop Spin Removal and Construction Walls January 14, 2025

Visible progress is underway at Disney's Animal Kingdom as crews have begun disassembling TriceraTop Spin, the dinosaur-themed ride in Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama. Additionally, construction walls have replaced the temporary planters that initially blocked access to the closed area, signaling the start of more extensive work for the Tropical Americas expansion.

TriceraTop Spin's Final Days

The family-friendly attraction, known for its flying dinosaur vehicles, officially closed on January 12, 2025, along with the rest of Dino-Rama's attractions, including Fossil Fun Games and Dinosaur Treasures. Now, sections of the ride's structure have been removed.

Construction Walls Replace Temporary Barriers

In the day immediately following the closure, large planters were used as temporary barriers to block off the Dino-Rama area. Most of these planters have now been replaced with construction walls, enclosing the entire site and providing a more permanent perimeter for the upcoming redevelopment work.

The cast for Encanto is almost done recording lines for the attraction!

We need a filter on the boards that replaces phrases like "they're just pushing dirt around" and "now construction is moving quickly" with an appropriate GIF.

How long until people think it’s amazing that the walls went up followed by thinking things slowed down because we can’t see obvious progress anymore?

It should be ready in, what, 2-3 months at this pace? 😬

Right on cue, someone says the thing.

I agree with most of this. I actually think most of the parks rn have a very positive future, at least the most positive when it comes to possibility in the last 30 years. I also think that Tropical Americas and Villains esp are very exciting and while we are nervous about certain things (animals and theming) it's still exciting. I would also argue every project rn is at least interesting and seems good in scale, and doesn't look like they are cheating out which I give them credit for

I sadly never saw them on residential- I wish I had! But this is all pointing to the same issue - Disney needs MORE not better use of “wasted space” - I would also add that the streets of America were an important part of the concept of the park - kinda like the rivers of america. For DAK - they needed to actually add tropical Americas - complete with some animal exhibits. Expand the park - not replace “wasted” space.

If you mean when it had Osborne lights you’re right, but that doesn’t mean it was worth it for ten months sitting empty. The lights were on residential street originally.

Not during the busiest and most popular time of the year (attendance wise) it wasn’t! They needed to do more with it during the rest of the year though I agree.

Ok yes i agree GMR is a major loss that should’ve been updated, but the MGM i grew up with was 5 rides, 2 of which i was too scared to do. The backlot tour became pretty hollow once they removed any filming at the park but removing residential street followed by the live narration made it the worst. I liked LMA the first few times i saw it but sitting out in the sun on bleachers for the same show wasn’t worth it. SOA was a waste of space for a bunch of facade sets.

Lateral in terms of number of rides I agree. However, this should provide for a better experience, especially for Encanto and the new carousel. The Encanto attraction is an indoor dark ride that should be appreciably longer with multiple show scenes. Definitely an upgrade over the off the shelf coaster that you couldn’t ride in the rain. And this carousel is also covered, so coupled with Indy, this land will have all rides capable of being open on bad weather days, something DAK desperately needs. In fact, if there is more attractions coming after Tropical Americas is completed, I would bet that most will be indoor rides.

I can't see the DAK project not being an overall improvement compared to what was there (even though it's TBD the "animal" connection). DHS will likely forever suffer the dual curse of being wedged in geographically and them not planning on "overall working studio" concept failing. I can see DHS becoming "better than ever" if they do Monsterland, Animation, & Muppets RR right, bring back MV3D thru Villians showbuilding, and somehow make Starwars land more knetic. I also predict (far, far into the future)...they CAN keep expanding by replacing "parking lots" with "parking garages" (like DL & Disney Springs).
