Fans eagerly awaiting the debut of Disney's The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure at Disney's Hollywood Studios may need to wait a little longer than anticipated.

According to sources familiar with the production timeline, the reimagined theatrical show, which was initially slated to open in fall 2024, is now expected to be delayed until summer 2025. Work begins soon on the exterior, which will include a new marquee.

The delay reportedly stems from unforeseen challenges during the construction and development of the new show. Disney originally announced that The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure would take over the refreshed Animation Courtyard theater with a bold new design that aimed to immerse audiences in Ariel's world like never before. The production promises stunning visuals, advanced effects, and a fresh take on musical numbers like Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls.

The original Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, which premiered in 1992, closed its doors in 2020 amid the pandemic and has yet to return. With this new iteration, Disney hopes to capture the magic of the classic while introducing new elements to modernize the story for today's audience.

The only new character (as in, ones that didn't appear in The Princess and the Frog) in Tiana's Bayou Adventure who actually kind of qualifies as an animatronic.

Mondo?

That flamingo looks a lot better than the animatronics in Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid too.

Give me Mondo here too and I shall be front row for opening day

those puppet frogs are leap years better than the barely noticeable stagnant ones in tianas muck pond. This show is looking to be good.

The current one is just bland -- it looks like the entrance to an upscale shopping center/mall instead of a theme park. The original entrance (not pictured above) was the best in that it looked the most like something out of golden age Hollywood, but with that theme mostly gone (and the park named differently) it makes sense that it's no longer there. The current color scheme is whatever, but I really think they need a better font choice.

I think the old one looks more vintage Hollywood, and the new one is more modern-day Hollywood. I personally prefer the new one as the futurist style is one I prefer. To that end, I don't wish they'd repaint the soundstages, I wish they'd remove them entirely. They're such a dated design, and honestly they feel so cheap. Just build a true facade.

Seeing them side by side like that... the old one looked so much better. The font/logo was better and the color scheme was better.

The VOTLM soundstage was repainted end of September 2019. The archway with the new font was revealed the first week of November 2019, so the repaint was probably done in anticipation of the new archway since it too received a new paint job.

I can’t remember when they decided to paint all the soundstages blue but I wish they’d go back to the tans and greens like the animation building.
