Luke Skywalker to Appear in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Alongside New Projection Show at Disneyland

Disneyland is set to introduce two major additions during Season of the Force in 2025: a new nighttime projection show in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and a rare character encounter that may feature Luke Skywalker. Both additions will be exclusive to Disneyland for now, but could they make their way to Walt Disney World?

"Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga" Projection Show

Beginning March 28, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland will feature a brand-new nighttime projection show called "Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga." This show will use projection mapping on the spires of Batuu near the Millennium Falcon, bringing to life key moments from the Skywalker saga.

  • The show's visuals will feature major scenes from the films, tying together the legendary story of the Skywalker family.
  • The soundtrack will feature iconic themes from John Williams' scores, immersing guests in the story.
  • This marks the first time Galaxy's Edge will host a projection show, adding a nighttime entertainment element to the land.

If this show proves popular at Disneyland, Hollywood Studios could be a natural fit for a similar nighttime show in Galaxy's Edge. Projection mapping is already used in Hollywood Studios on Tower of Terror and Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Luke Skywalker (or Someone Else?) on Batuu

For the first time, a "shadowy visitor" will appear in Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland. The official description hints at a mysterious figure in Jedi robes, fueling speculation that this could be Luke Skywalker in a limited-time character appearance.

  • The timeline of Galaxy's Edge is set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, making a Luke appearance unusual unless this is a Force Ghost version.
  • Disneyland has introduced temporary character encounters outside the established timeline before, including Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka Tano, and Din Djarin with Grogu.

Hollywood Studios has never had a Luke meet-and-greet, but if Disneyland's version is well received, it could set the stage for more legacy characters appearing in Florida.

Could These Additions Come to Walt Disney World?

  • Projection Show: If Shadows of Memory is a success, Hollywood Studios could adapt it for Galaxy's Edge, given the similar layout of the lands.
  • Luke Skywalker Appearance: A limited-time Luke Skywalker character encounter in Hollywood Studios seems unlikely unless Disney begins to be more ambitious with its character appearances at Walt Disney World. Disneyland frequently sees limited-time special appearances from rare characters, but Walt Disney World remains much more rigid with its offerings.

For now, these Season of the Force additions are exclusive to Disneyland, but they show Disney's willingness to expand Star Wars entertainment offerings. If they prove popular, they could pave the way for more Star Wars nighttime entertainment and character experiences in Hollywood Studios.

I wasn't talking about the show. I said they'd miss the season and likely Luke.

Confirmed by Tom Bricker on his site. Its staying. "Although Season of the Force ends on May 11, “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” is expected to continue indefinitely in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge throughout 2025 and beyond. Check Disneyland.com or the Disneyland app for showtimes." Also they have an alternative overlay of the nightly fireworks, "Fire of the Rising Moon" which is also staying. GE, as you may recall is in DL Park. Quote below from a question to him on his site. "Both the shows are permanent. “Fire of the Rising Moons” started last year during Season of the Force and has continued every night there’s been fireworks since (well, except maybe New Year’s Eve–not sure if there was a version for that)."

Brave move by Disney to have a Luke Skywalker face character. There's not much to the character design, hope they pull it off.

Yeah. I saw that afterward. Still, I'm there on the first day of the 70th anniversary festivities. Probably why SOTF has to end on 5/11 so they can switch over to 70th anniversary on 5/16.

I feel like it'll happen a year or two from now.

You'll be missing Season of the Force (and likely Luke unless they keep him on) as it ends on the 11th.

Took a little maneuvering but I'm going to DLR May 16-18 this year. I was going to go earlier in the week then found out that the 70th anniversary begins May 16. I can't miss that, so I'm combining my vacation with a trip to WDW first with round-trip flight out of Orlando. Looking forward to all these new things in DL's Galaxy's Edge as well as all the 70th anniversary activities.

Personally, I don’t think so. If anything, I could see them adding Luke but not the projection show.

I hope so, but I don’t see TDO spending the extra capital

This is such a good idea, Galaxies Edge needs more movement and more shows, it’s something it has lacked from the day it opened.

I also wonder if MK could get something similar when Villains Land is made - utilize the central MK fireworks but with different music and projections ... Would help spread the crowds
