Disney has filed more permits today for lighting equipment near to EPCOT's Spaceship Earth.
The permit, to be carried out by Pro Sound and Video, is for "Install of lighting equipment and Low Voltage Terminations." (Thanks to @danlb_2000 on the WDWMAGIC Forums for spotting the permits.) Pro Sound and Video has been involved in many Walt Disney World projects, and works closely with Walt Disney World, including work on Pandora - The World of Avatar.
This new permit comes after a number of upgrades have already been made to the sound system in the main entrance area. Four JBL subwoofers have been installed in the planters on the approach to the fountain area.
It would seem that the subwoofers will be providing deep bass frequencies to complement a large number of green tower speakers that were installed as part of the new entrance design. Neither the subwoofers or green tower speakers are currently in use.
Existing area music is played using a handful of basic large speakers mounted onto the monorail pylons, delivering a relatively low quality soundscape compared to modern standards.
The new upgraded sound design would appear to be part of the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations for the Walt Disney World Resort, which is expected to include a series of moments after dark that will feature dramatic music and lighting effects on Spaceship Earth. A teaser video released by Disney shows the lighting effects that we may see.
Accompanying the new lighting effects will perhaps be a larger scale version of something similar to what we see in the EPCOT Experience presentation, and will likely include the specially composed Pinar Toprak theme for EPCOT.
You can hear the Pinar Toprak EPCOT theme from a performance at D23 below.
