Disney has announced closure dates for Muppets-themed attractions at Hollywood Studios, but fans are left with one major unanswered question: When will Rock 'n' Roller Coaster close for its already announced transformation into a Muppets-themed ride?

The closures will begin in May, with the Grand Avenue area entering a phased shutdown. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will serve its final meals on May 10, and both Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close after June 7. These dates set the stage for a significant reshaping of the park, yet Disney did not reveal when the changes would reach Rock 'n' Roller Coaster on Sunset Boulevard.

Disney confirmed that Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and other Muppet favorites will take over the coaster, teaming up with music legends for a rockin’ music festival. The new ride promises high-speed thrills with a signature Muppets twist, laughter, and new music. Concept art released by Disney showcases the lively and humorous tone fans can expect, but no timeline has been shared for when the reimagining will begin.

The lack of a closure date for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster leaves fans wondering how long they have to experience the Aerosmith-themed version of the ride. The coaster recently reopened from an extensive refurbishment that improved its ride system and lighting but retained its original storyline. For now, it remains unclear how much longer the classic version will be available.

Meanwhile, Disney did reveal that Sunset Boulevard with become home to new Muppets-themed merchandise accompanying the ride’s transformation.

Maybe this isn't what the other poster meant, but I believe they were more speaking to people understanding the general story of Splash Mountain, but not the climax of the story where Brer Rabbit is apparently tricking Brer Fox to throw him into the briar patch so he can escape... Which if that's the case, I completely agree that I personally never knew that was the climax of the story until someone wrote it on here within the last year. And I have been going on Splash Mountain all of my life (since it opened) and I am in my 30s.

If it took someone more than 2 rides to figure out the story on Splash, that is a sad statement. It's really not that complicated. In fact, I think... I think... Brer Rabbit even explained it in the ride. Something about leaving his home to go looking for his laughing place and then discovering that his home was his laughing place all along. 🤷‍♂️ Anywho... I really don't know how they are going to drop Muppets onto RnRC. It just feels... wrong. As does the fact that most RnRC merchandise is already gone. For example - the empty drums where the drumsticks used to be sold is now filled with pre-packaged popcorn.

Gillian’s? That show’s been off the air for a while I think

One thing that is a bummer about this specific retheme, is that it is the exact worst spot in the park to build anything muppets related around. I know people are saying they want a “land”, but with the existing space, RNRC is butt up against a road, the TOT queue, backstage space, and the animation courtyard expansion plot. I mean yeah you could do a show when/IF villians ends, but that still would kinda be a crappy land that is just big boxes, not really mupppety, without even a restaurant. Attached an illustration of a pie in the sky hypothetical of where anything could go, but it’s still probably mostly impossible, as people use some of these things, or maybe it’s partly where the AC replacement goes. Also the coaster seems easily retheme-able or replace-able after a while. Either way, not a good spot long term imo. I almost wish we would’ve had a few years without muppets at wdw if it meant we get a proper muppetvision sucessor in a more permanent feeling spot or more built out, but lord knows how unlikely that is.

My guess is rock’n’roller coaster closes after this summer and reopens in spring or summer 2026 considering they currently have nothing else scheduled to open in 2026.

I wish they moved Muppet Vision 3D to the theatre next to Figment. It seems like such a natural fit next to the imagination pavilion.

This makes me sad. I love MuppetVision 3D!

My guess is that this will happen either in late 2025 or sometime in 2026.

I'm a few pages late, but a lot of people are discussing how you can't really understand the story. I just wanted to say that that was also the case to most fans for Splash Mountain, but that didn't make it any less iconic.

But to be fair, it’s a queue in a space where a queue sort of makes sense. We’ve been taken in for processing before interrogation, so it makes sense we’re waiting for them to get through the backlog of all the people they captured. They made sure that in the places where there’s a sense of urgency (after the first Rey preshow as we rush to the ship, and after the interrogation preshow when we’re escaping), that there is no line. In the places where there is a line, they put a break in the story. They made sure that the story beats match the operational realities of running the attraction

Agreed. Guardians is an incredible roller coaster with top-tier technology behind it, just limited by a overburdened story by Imagineering that, as others have noted, is the result of corporate mandates.

Fun fact: when I ride RnRC, they always leave the preshow exit doors open for me since I’m already a VIP. I pass through like
