Disney has officially announced that the Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios, replacing Aerosmith. The news comes after years of speculation about the future of Aerosmith's involvement with the popular thrill ride at Walt Disney World.

The first hint of a Muppets-themed makeover came from Jeff Yorkes, co-creator of "The Muppets Mayhem" on Disney+. Back in June 2023, Yorkes hinted at the idea on Twitter, responding to a rumor article with, "Not gonna lie-- this was absolutely part of our original pitch and is another piece of this dream. Fingers-crossed that it happens."

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, known for its high-speed thrills and iconic rock soundtrack, recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment. The ride improvements focused on the ride system and lighting, but kept the Aerosmith storyline intact—at least for now. With Disney's announcement, the coaster will soon feature a new Muppets-themed experience, adding fresh energy and humor to one of Walt Disney World's fan-favorite thrill rides.

This announcement coincides with another major shift for the Muppets at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney has also confirmed that MuppetVision 3D will close to make way for the upcoming Monsters Inc. Land.

Details on the new Muppets storyline for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster are still under wraps, but Disney says "The Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music's biggest stars for a rockin' music festival!"

Disney has yet to give a closing date for the current version of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, but for now, fans of Aerosmith's iconic coaster have a limited time to catch their favorite band in action before the Muppets bring their unique twist to this high-speed adventure.

Anyone know what happened to the Kermit balloon after they got rid of it? Be nice if they could put it back up atop The RnR building, unless it messes with sight lines again

That key is still under the mat at Muppet pre show hallway. That’s got to move to RnR I would guess.

Interesting suggestion from Disney Dan. Wonder if this happens?

I have no idea what the timeline will be on this (which I agree is really annoying), but one thing to consider is that the Zootopia show at Animal Kingdom was announced in Sept 2023, and ITTBAB still hasn't closed yet. So there is hope for your August trip!

Go over to Universal and type in 902 to the secret rip ride rockit song list (push and then hold the Rockit logo on the pad wait 5 -10 seconds to bring up a number keypad.) and you get "Rainbow Connection", go ahead and prepare yourself for the ride that way. (901 is moving right along)

Too soon!!!!!!! That was my thought too…. Muppets and Tough to be a bug bridge the gap and have elements like tiki room and country bears that make me want to revisit more than other 3d shows.

Disney singlehandedly keeps the 3D parody concept relevant. So long as they continue to run shows like PhilharMagic or something in the Magic Eye Theater, the joke still works even if you're too young to remember the 3D craze. The ridiculous thing is that with the death of this and It's Tough to be a Bug, they're killing the impressive 3D shows that had animatronics and unique live effects (showcasing Disney taking a concept and elevating it) and leaving the more mundane ones.

Because it's a timeless classic, and fulfills a critical need in the park of a place you can always get into without a lengthy wait and enjoy the best theme park 3D show in AC!

I actually prefer the jason segal movie the best, then the muppet movie to be totally honest....and I really like the moopets too!

Of course not. It's not a roller coaster. But neither ride is "fast."

This is what scares me a little. Barely visable street signs excluded, there are no sets on this ride to re-theme (as they did well with Frozen). The star of Rock n' Roller Coaster is the Rock n' Roll, which is so conducive to a thrill ride - down to Steven Tyler's vocal countdown. Muppets are good if you can use them to their stregths, which to me are their humor and some classic tamer music like Rainbow Connection - not sure this ride system is fitting here. Reminds me a bit of the Splash drop feeling out of place with Tiana's Disney Junior style narritive.

At this point in their history I’d argue the Muppets have more fans over 48 inches than they do below.

This is positively diabolical
