Mission: SPACE at Walt Disney World's EPCOT has a new addition created through the combined efforts of Walt Disney Imagineering and NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover team.

The new display replicates the tread marks left by the Perseverance rover on the surface of Mars, using a borrowed prototype rover wheel.

Disney artists also added some surface collection tubes recreated through 3D printing.

Perseverance continues its mission on Mars to collect samples that a future mission could one day return to Earth.

Why?

SobchakSecurityAug 09, 2024

Who knows if it's true, but I remember reading years ago that apparently people watching the gravity wheel continually rotate while they were standing in line actually increased the motion sickness problem on the ride, some sort of visually induced dizziness that the ride then exacerbated.

Mr. Iger, tear down this attraction.

you're quite the Debbie Downer aren't ya

I mean, the Earth spinning was also not something most people realized was missing. Not saying they’ll fix anything else, but you’re arguing that they won’t repair ignorable details in a thread where they just, uh, repaired an ignorable detail.

Nah, not a prominent element in the queue nor relevant to the attraction, why bother? Hey, can I interest you in a Figment popcorn bucket?

"If we can dream it, we can do it"

dmc493Aug 07, 2024

Wishful thinking that the gravity wheel inside will start spinning again too?

Good show Disney!! As much as I miss Horizons, I really like Mission Space. A non IP, very "EPCOTy" feeling pavilion.

It's far too big for its own good. I mean, just look at it. Taking over the whole entrance area like it owns the place.

Why do you hate Mars so much?!

osianMay 26, 2024

I would like it to stay and would prefer other attractions to go, but let's not start yet another "I hate Mssion Space because I have a weak stomach therefore no one should ever ride it ever again" debate, as this thread is about exterior refurbishment and I like seeing the updates to make it look spick and span.

It looks nice, but I can't help thinking it's lipstick on a pig. I know we're all about "add, don't replace" but I wouldn't shed any tears to see this become something new.
