Escape to Walt's Wilderness - a new off-the-beaten-track tour is now available at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.

The five hour, $109+tax tour takes guests on a journey through the wilderness and gives a taste of some of the activities on offer at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.

The adventure begins at 8am with a pontoon boat tour from the Contemporary Resort boat dock. During the boat ride, the guide shares stories of Walt Disney and his passion for the outdoors and nature. Along the way, wildlife guides and binoculars help with the wildlife spotting.

On arrival at Fort Wilderness, a bonfire and camp-style breakfast awaits. The menu includes locally sourced citrus salad, egg frittata, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, granola, coffee and juice. And marshmallows for the campfire of course!

A wagon ride is next, where guests are transported in style to an archery lesson. A hike in the woods follows, with a stop at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch for a look at how the horses are cared for and their importance in the history of the Disney parks.

Escape to Walt's Wilderness is for ages 7 and over, and costs $109+tax. The tour is typically offered every Wednesday and Thursday, and complimentary transport is provided for Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests.

I love the calmness of the tour. WDW is a fast pace, crowded place and I think this is a nice break from all the craziness.

I have to agree with you. I did most of these things on my own at Fort Wilderness on a free day I had this last May for a fraction of the cost

I will be interested to see how much accurate information will be presented by the tour guide. Reading the description it almost sounds like it will be a fantasized version of why Walt chose Orlando. Quoted from the parks blog: "He tells us we are about to “walk in Walt’s footsteps and see why he was determined to choose this place for his next Disneyland.” Unbeknownst to me, Central Florida had personal appeal to Walt as this was where his parents met many moons ago. And as we pushed off the dock to explore Bay Lake we also learned that while Walt never had the chance to see the completion of Walt Disney World Resort, he did indeed sail across this same lake before he passed."

No value to many others, too, who see that you can do much (if not most) of the things this tour offers either for free or for far less money that is required to plunk down for it.

Well the bits that can't be done for free are about half the cost of the tour, archery is $39, wagon ride is $8. You could get breakfast for about $15. It is possible to walk round Fort Wilderness for free and get a boat from MK to the Fort for free. So $40 of the price of the tour is paying for the exclusive guided boat trip and the guided hike at the Fort.

I think this looks great. It's quite reasonably priced compared to Wild Africa Trek. WDW tours are hidden gems and always have very knowledgeable guides, and so much of the time you'd think they forget WDW was supposed to be about more than just theme parks, so anything that appreciates that is good. I've done quite a few of the tours, and every one was a worthwhile experience - far better way to spend a hundred bucks than some stupid upcharge party or hard ticket cupcake event!

Agree with your comment; much of this can be done on your own without extra charge. However, I think that the tour guide will enhance the experience by contributing historical and behind-the-scenes information. For me, that's a big part of this new tour, along with all the fun activities (and breakfast) on the schedule. I like the whole immersive aspect of a dedicated tour about Fort Wilderness, and joining others who are also FW fans. Now, if they'd only lower the price a smidge . . . ;)
