I think this is to lure night-time / dinner time traffic to Disney Springs. You are in a park during the day, stop for more of a snack/lighter meal at a quick service restaurant. But this discount gets you thinking about hitting Disney Springs for your night meal. Sure you'll get a discount at some Disney stores, which is a benefit to Disney. But I think the real intent of these is to get visitors to Disney Springs for dinner.

Eh, I was in a foul 'GotG coming to ruin a classic ride near you!' mood last time I discussed Disney Springs. ;) WDW has always had a Lake Buena Vista shopping center, makes for a fun diversion, and DS is miles better than the painful embarrassment they've had there in the recent years. Might as well try to lure some tourists from the parks to the shops. Although besides coupons you could try, say, decent pricing levels. DLP for example has an outlet mall near it, designer clothes at discount prices, lightly but nicelythemed to an old French town and Italian square, it is packed with locals and tourists alike, entire busloads of Asians come there to buy clothes that were produced five miles from where they live in the sweatshops they own just so they can brag they bought their clothes in Paris.

Would have been nice if they could extend it through september :( I would have thought they would have done this kind of offer through non peak times to bring people into the shops.

@The Empress Lilly Would like your thoughts on this matter? Don't forget to breath.

DisneyFans4LifeJul 25, 2016

This is true...I have a few of the Disney shirts from Wally World and Target in my collection lol.

COProgressFanJul 25, 2016

I think in general though, people can find Disney tee's and other merchandise at places like Target and Walmart for a fraction of the price as WDW prices. Even at Springs, we're seeing Alex & Ani, Uniqlo, Vera Bradley, and Pandora selling items lower than the exact same items at Disney owned shops.

DisneyFans4LifeJul 25, 2016

What's interesting though is if you go on some other online shops like Etsy the prices aren't all that much cheaper than in the parks. There wasn't anything that caught my eye in the parks, so I went on Etsy and found something I liked for my wife, but it ended up being the same price as the stuff in the stores.

COProgressFanJul 25, 2016

Exactly. And yet some of the merch. folks seem confused / surprised by this. And folks above them have their heads in the sand and simply won't do anything to adjust pricing to more realistic levels.

For a 5% commission, I'll buy your items for you in advance.

"The offer is available from July 26 to September 4" it ends one day before I arrive. Talk about bad luck...

This may get some people to shop at Disney Springs, but I don't think it'll make that much of a difference.

DisneyFans4LifeJul 25, 2016

I was kinda hoping they'd let you stack this with the AP discount and get a total of 20% off...but unfortunately that's not the case. This reminds of me of shopping at the outlets when you get coupons for like three other stores when you buy at one place. I think the last time I went, I shopped at Van Heusen and when I checked out I received some coupons for Izod and Tommy and maybe one other place.

Monorail_Red_77Jul 25, 2016

I think that they are probably just trying to steer more people over to Disney Springs for shopping. I remember in years past they did this coupon promotion in the spring and it was 10% off at Mainstreet Emporium, etc. Maybe trying to grab some extra sales from the non-Annual Passholders. Being an AP myself, I would not use this coupon since I already get 10% off on merch at any Disney operated merch shop.

when you bring in a schlock shop selling $15 t-shirts, it will tend to impact the $37 t-shirt sales.
