Ron Jon Surf Shop will be opening a new store in late 2019 at Disney Springs.

The 10,000-square-foot Ron Jon location will be situated in Town Center at Disney Springs, using the empty unit across from the Polite Pig that was most recently home to the Kingdom Hearts preview center and Disney Corner.

Ron Jon Surf Shop currently operates stores throughout Florida and in other locations along the eastern seaboard including Ocean City, Md., Orange Beach, Ala., two locations in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and its original location in Ship Bottom, N.J. Ron Jon Surf Shop carries all of the beach essentials needed to have fun in the sun and features a wide assortment of surfwear, swimwear, sunglasses, hats and footwear.

According to Debbie Harvey, president and COO of Ron Jon Surf Shop, the company selected Disney Springs as a location for its new store because of the shopping destination’s immense popularity with visitors as well as locals in the Orlando market, many of whom are familiar with the Ron Jon brand.

“We are thrilled to be planning a new Ron Jon store located at Disney Springs,” Harvey said. “This is an extremely popular shopping destination for local residents and the millions of visitors coming to the Orlando area, and we feel it’s the perfect location for a new Ron Jon Surf Shop.”

I don’t mind it, I just found it odd as everywhere else with escalators in Disney Springs has both an up and a down.

Jon81ukNov 21, 2019

Yes but not many will choose to take the exercise and then the store loses sales as people don’t go to the upper floor. Escalator up and stairs down is a good compromise of some exercise!

LilofanNov 21, 2019

Since the obesity level is out of control in the USA some could use the exercise.

That's quite normal. Going up stairs is generally harder and takes more effort, going down for most people is easier so most people can manage the stairs down better than they can going up. Also it encourages people to go upstairs compared to stores with no escalator at all, if there is stairs only I am less likely to want to put the effort in to climbing up!

and they sell bathing suits and rash guards- not exactly a shop of curiosities

It's odd that this store has an "up" escalator, but not one going down. You have to either take the stairs or elevator to get down.

There's another one at The Florida Mall, Orlando. I saw it last August, don't know if it's still there.

and out of that 15 we now have 3* in Florida located in places where you won't see much in the way of surfing. ;) *Orlando Airport, Disney Springs and Clearwater beach (which only has pasable surf waves when a tropical storm or hurricane is coming near)

Ah, that makes sense. In that case, it wasn't actually a failure at all, then. I guess we really do need to think of Disney Springs like an actual mall. I think because most of what went into DTD and Westside ended up being largely permanent that these places coming and going in Springs seems like trouble but if you compare them to a regular mall, I suppose turnover isn't that unusual. There were changes in DTD and Westside over the years of course but with so many fewer storefronts and with so many O&O by Disney, things just seemed more stable. It makes sense that more stores and more stores not owned by Disney would naturally translate into more turnover, too.

There actually was a Wet Seal about 10 years ago in what was then Downtown Disney https://www.wdwmagic.com/shopping/blink-by-wet-seal/gallery/14nov2011-blink-now-open.htm

DisneyDreamerxyzNov 15, 2019

There are only 15 Ron Jon stores in the entire world, hardly something you can find anywhere.

The ColonelNov 15, 2019

That's great. I cant wait till they get a Wet Seal and Auntie M's Pretzels. So unique. Those imagineers must never sleep.
