Time is running out for fans of Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama at Disney's Animal Kingdom. This whimsical, carnival-style area in Dinoland U.S.A. will close permanently at the end of operations on January 12, 2025, as part of the park's transformation into the highly anticipated Tropical Americas expansion.

Attractions Closing Permanently

The closure will include all three of Dino-Rama's experiences:

TriceraTop Spin: The family-friendly ride that allows guests to soar in colorful dinosaur-themed vehicles.

Fossil Fun Games: A midway of carnival-style games where guests can win dinosaur-themed prizes.

Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures: A merchandise shop packed with dinosaur-themed souvenirs and quirky decor.

After January 12, these attractions will be permanently closed, with demolition work set to begin shortly after. Construction walls will be installed on January 13, 2025, marking the start of the area's transformation.

The Future of Dino-Rama

The closure of Dino-Rama paves the way for the upcoming Tropical Americas expansion, a reimagining of Dinoland U.S.A. that will feature attractions inspired by South America's diverse landscapes, cultures, and wildlife.

At the heart of the new land will be Disney's first-ever Encanto-themed attraction, where guests will step into the magical casita of the Madrigal family and join Antonio as he celebrates his unique gift of communicating with animals. Additionally, an Indiana Jones attraction is planned to replace the DINOSAUR ride after 2025, taking guests on an adventure through a newly discovered Maya temple.

What's Staying (For Now)

While much of Dinoland U.S.A. will close in early 2025, some areas will remain open during the initial phases of construction, including:

  • DINOSAUR: The original thrill ride will continue operating through 2025.
  • The Boneyard: A play area for kids to dig for "fossils" and explore dino-themed activities.
  • Restaurantosaurus and Dino-Bite Snacks: These dining locations will also remain open during the early stages of redevelopment.

Plan Your Visit

For fans of Dino-Rama's nostalgic charm and family-friendly attractions, this is the final opportunity to experience it before it "goes extinct."

Disney's Animal Kingdom is open from 8 am to 7 pm on Saturday, January 11, and 8 am to 6 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Photos of Dino-Rama in its final week of operation.

Would have made more sense to just plus Dinoland USA. Kids love dinosaurs, adults love dinosaurs, Walt loved dinosaurs, and dinosaurs were the only things keeping Universe of Energy hanging on until the very end. This move is just another reason why I believe that Disney is flat-out scared of Universal. Instead of competing against the insane murder lizards of the Jurassic Park franchise with actual biologically-accurate dinosaurs, Disney just rolls over and gives up.

Yeah but pizza is also really popular. Flame Tree has had a burger in the past.

I have a feeling Pizzafari could become the new home for burgers in DAK Discovery Island makes the most sense to me as the place for american food

Still, dismantling half of triceratops spin in two days and then leaving the half-built ride sitting for a week is confusing to me. I would think they'd demo the whole ride at once

Also, some things you want to do slowly.

Work goes through phases that are more or less obvious to the common observer. You not being able to see things from beyond the wall does not necessarily indicate a slowdown.

Kinda wild how they got so much done so quickly and now it's just slowed down so much

Yes - it appears it will remain open through 2025: In an update shared today, Disney provided new insight into the future of DINOSAUR at Animal Kingdom, suggesting the ride will remain operational through 2025 before closing permanently to make way for the Tropical Americas expansion. https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/dinosaur/news/03dec2024-disney-shares-new-details-about-dinosaurs-2025-closing-date-at-animal-kingdom.htm
