Disney has announced that Astro Orbiter, the classic spinning rocket attraction in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, will close for refurbishment beginning January 13, 2025. The closure is expected to last through summer 2025, with no specific reopening date provided.

Astro Orbiter, located atop the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover platform, is known for its elevated views of the park and thrilling experience as guests soar in planetary-themed rockets. While Disney has not shared details about the scope of the refurbishment, extended closures often suggest ride system maintenance.

Astro Orbiter last received significant updates in 2014, when its color scheme and lighting effects were refreshed. It remains to be seen if the upcoming refurbishment will bring noticeable enhancements to the attraction or if the updates will focus primarily on maintenance.

I was there last week and I cant quite figure out how the crane got in. Anyone have any insight this? It is taller than the people mover track. I assume it went down main st and by the fire dept?

Kinda gives it a sundial aesthetic. Anyway, lets hope they don't just make it minimalist or something

They did it 10.5 years ago in 2014. They did a complete tear down in Disneyland in 2019. From 2014: https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/astro-orbitor/gallery/05sep2014-astro-orbiter-refurbishment/21796.htm

What’s the precedent for complete tear downs of Astro?

That’s true. Probably need it out of Tomorrowland by Presidents weekend and they’ll want the land wide open throughout Spring Break season.

They're probably semi-motivated to get the crane in and out quickly in this case, whereas it doesn't matter much in Dinoland.

Somehow this demo is going faster than TriceraTop Spin.
